Ijora-Badia is an impoverished community within the city of Lagos, Nigeria. In February of 2013, half of the area was demolished by the Lagos State Government, resulting in political strife and further destitution of the people living there. As work is hard to come by in all low income areas of Lagos, many residents spend a significant amount of their time playing the local Baba-Ijebu Lottery, the private lottery that's ubiquitous throughout the city. Tickets are purchased at small kiosks from printer boxes made of soft red plastic and the kiosks that house them function as hangouts for locals and players. This body of work looks at the totality of Ijora-Badia through the residents’ relationship to the lottery.
